Natural Malachite Pair 44.4ct 24x13mm Octagon Cabochons

Fibrous (velvet) malachite variety - not the typical banded material but composed of fine radiating silky crystals that produce a fan-like radial pattern across the face of each stone. The tone is dark and heavy: deep forest green to near-black dominates, with vivid bright emerald speckles and fibrous streaks distributed across both stones. The fibrous crystal habit means the polished surface retains a slight micro-texture and shows a faint chatoyant shimmer when the light angle shifts. Both stones share the same dark, moody character and are a well-matched pair in tone. A small inclusion line is visible near the lower center of the left stone - a natural feature of this fibrous malachite variety.

Velvet malachite has a distinctly different character from the bright classic banded type - the dark, rich tone works well in oxidised silver or dark metal settings where the deep green reads at its best. At 24x13mm per stone, the elongated octagon format is well suited for earring settings. Congo and Zambia are the principal sources of fine malachite. Natural malachite, loose matched pair.
