A soft, cool lilac-pink cushion cut with the gentle, almost lavender tone that sets kunzite apart from other pink gemstones. The color is notably light in saturation, reading as a barely-there blush of warm pink layered with cool lavender, and this shifts perceptibly across the facets as the viewing angle changes. Kunzite is the pink to lilac variety of the mineral spodumene, a lithium aluminum silicate that forms in granitic pegmatites. Afghanistan is one of the most productive sources of accessible kunzite, yielding crystals from very pale through moderately saturated pink. This stone is entirely untreated, its soft lilac-pink color natural with no heat or irradiation applied. Its perfect cleavage calls for protective settings, so pendants, earrings, and bezel or halo rings are the most practical choices; the 7.6x7.4mm size works especially well as a drop earring stone or a delicate center stone.
