Sodalite 19.1ct octagon cabochon

The largest of the three sodalite octagons, this wide cushion-shaped cabochon shows a deep slate-blue body with a distinctly striated, banded character running roughly horizontally across the stone. The banding creates a subtle layered texture visible through the high-gloss polish, giving this piece a different visual character from the mottled or cloudy examples. Natural rust-brown inclusions appear at the lower edge. Strong reflective polish throughout.

Sodalite's striated banding is a natural characteristic of its crystal growth, visible in some material and absent in others. From India. At nearly 22x19mm and 19.1ct this is a bold stone that reads prominently in bezel-set pendants and statement rings; at a hardness of 5.5 to 6, a protective bezel setting is recommended for daily ring wear.
