Natural Rose Quartz
Rose quartz is the pink variety of quartz (SiO2). It usually forms as large, solid masses rather than crystals, and its soft, slightly milky pink comes from microscopic fibers of a dumortierite-related mineral scattered through the quartz. Those same fibers give it a gentle haze and a silky glow, so rose quartz is mostly cut as cabochons, beads and carvings. With a Mohs hardness of 7, it is a durable stone for jewelry.

About rose quartz
Rose quartz has been carved into beads and ornaments since ancient times and remains one of the most familiar pink stones. Brazil and Madagascar are the best-known sources, with other deposits in India, Namibia and the Black Hills of South Dakota. Clear, well-formed pink quartz crystals are much rarer and owe their color to a different cause. Some rose quartz holds fine needles that create a six-rayed star when the stone is cut as a cabochon. In zodiac lists rose quartz is linked with Taurus and Libra.
What you'll find in this collection
You'll find rose quartz cabochons in soft blush pink with a smooth, silky polish: single teardrops and ovals of about 10 to 20 carats, matched sets of three marquise cabochons of about 11 to 15 carats in total, and a mixed set of five ovals and marquises, suited to pendants, rings and earrings.
How to recognise rose quartz
Natural rose quartz is translucent rather than clear, with an even, slightly cloudy pink and often fine cracks or streaks inside. The color runs through the whole stone, while in dyed quartz or glass it gathers in cracks, and glass may hold round gas bubbles. Shine a strong light through a cabochon from behind and some stones show a six-rayed star.
Caring for rose quartz
Clean rose quartz with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Its color is stable in normal wear, but long exposure to strong sunlight or high heat can make it paler, so store it in a box or pouch away from windows.
Every rose quartz is natural, and each listing gives its weight, size, origin and treatment, with photos of the actual stone.
