Three round blue sapphire cabochons with one of the more striking tonal contrasts in the range. The left stone is a soft grayish-blue with a beautiful silvery reflection; the center stone is the standout, offering deep, vivid blue with excellent saturation and a well-formed dome; the right stone shifts to a very pale gray-green with a cooler, near-mint quality quite unlike the others. Fine silk inclusions are present throughout, as expected for natural corundum of this type and origin.
All three come from Madagascar and are heat-treated, which is the accepted standard for this origin. The contrast between the vivid center stone and the softer flanking pieces makes this a versatile set for asymmetric or gradient jewelry designs. Equally suited as individual accent stones or kept together as a collector parcel of natural corundum.
Natural blue sapphire, September birthstone - trio set, sold loose.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
These stones are heated, and the color from heating is stable. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
