About amethyst
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted amethyst, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Amethyst is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This amethyst is untreated. Amethyst takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
