A neatly oval, slightly elongated polished ammonite with a dark near-black shell and tan-brown ammonitic suture patterning on both flanks. The umbilicus has a striking silvery-white iridescent halo where the nacreous shell layers are preserved around the navel.
The silvery nacre ring at the umbilicus is a clean, distinct feature that lifts this specimen visually. Natural ammonite fossil from China, polished at 41mm.

About ammonite
Ammonites are fossil shells of extinct sea animals related to today’s octopus and squid. Over millions of years the shell was replaced by minerals, often calcite, which is 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale.
Cleaning
Wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: the fossil is soft and can crack along its chamber walls. Keep it away from acids, even lemon juice and vinegar, which dissolve its minerals.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz, so dust it gently.
Scale
True to scale: 41 mm
