A natural black star sapphire round cabochon with a bright, prominently displayed 6-ray star that blazes from the center of the high dome. The stone glows with warm golden-bronze tones under incandescent light, with the star arms radiating cleanly outward from a bright pinpoint center — a hallmark of a well-oriented cabochon cut. Despite its compact 6mm footprint, the star is large and unmistakable.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
The star comes from fine needle-like inclusions inside the stone. They make it slightly less tough than a clean faceted stone, so treat the domed surface gently. Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This sapphire is untreated. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
