This 3.4mm round blue sapphire from Africa shows a medium navy-blue tone with a natural, organic quality to its color. The SI clarity brings its natural inclusions to view, a hallmark of earth-grown corundum that underscores its authenticity. The round cut is neat and well-proportioned, allowing the stone's blue hue to present pleasingly under light.
Sourced from the African continent, an important and growing source of natural sapphires with a wide range of tones and characteristics. The stone has been heat treated to enhance its color, standard practice for sapphires from African origins. At 0.23ct and 3.4mm, this gem suits accent use in rings, earrings, or pendants, and is a solid find for collectors seeking natural African sapphires.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
