This 5x3.5mm oval blue sapphire from Africa shows a medium-dark navy-blue tone with a naturally lighter, brighter zone toward the center that deepens to a richer navy at the edges. The oval cut is classic and elegant, and the natural inclusions at SI clarity add authentic character to this earth-grown corundum. A well-proportioned stone with a distinctive, layered color pattern that speaks to its natural origin.
African sapphire fields produce a wide variety of blue tones, and this stone's color gradient is a natural reminder of the geological complexity of these gems. Standard heat treatment has been applied to enhance its color. At 0.39ct and 5x3.5mm, the oval outline makes it well-suited for a ring center stone, a pendant, or earrings, and a good-value option for a natural blue sapphire with character.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
