This 4.9x4.1mm oval blue sapphire from Madagascar is deeply and boldly colored, with an intense navy-blue tone that dominates the stone from edge to edge. Vivid cobalt-blue highlights flash across the facets when light catches them, creating a dramatic, gemmy quality that makes this stone hard to overlook. Natural inclusions at SI clarity are part of this genuine, earth-grown stone's character and authenticity.
Madagascar consistently produces blue sapphires with some of the richest color available in the market, and this stone's deep navy tone is a fine example of that reputation. Standard heat treatment has been applied to enhance its color. At 0.42ct and 4.9x4.1mm, this near-square oval makes a striking center stone for a ring or pendant, and a compelling pick for collectors who appreciate deeply saturated natural sapphires.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
