This oval-cut green sapphire from Malawi displays a delicate muted sage-green hue with silvery overtones and a subtle translucency that gives the stone an organic, moss-like quality. The natural warm golden-brown inclusions visible within the stone are hallmarks of its untreated, earth-born character, adding an element of geological authenticity and making this a genuinely one-of-a-kind specimen.
Malawi is an emerging and respected sapphire source in east Africa, prized for producing green and teal corundum with distinctive earthy tones. This stone is entirely untreated, maintaining its natural color and internal features as formed in the earth over millions of years. Its understated sage-green palette is an excellent match for nature-inspired jewelry designs, rose gold settings that complement its warm inclusions, or for collectors who value authentic, unenhanced gemstones from less commonly featured origins.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is untreated. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
