A compact, chunky rough crystal with noticeably more three-dimensional presence than flatter pieces. The upper portion retains raw crystalline texture, appearing slightly frosted and pale grey where the original crystal surface is uneven, while the main body below transitions into cleaner, more translucent pale material with smooth glassy cleavage planes on the sides. The overall color reads near-colorless to faintly pale green in daylight, with a softly watery, ice-like quality in transmitted light. Under 365nm UV, the crystal lights up in a strong orange-red glow through its entire body, a vivid contrast to its quiet daytime appearance.
Afghanistan is one of the major sources of gem-quality spodumene, with large crystals developing in lithium-rich granitic pegmatites across the country's northeastern provinces. This specimen is entirely untreated, in its natural rough state. The mineral's perfect cleavage in two directions is well visible in the smooth side faces, making this a useful study and display piece alongside its visual appeal.
