About lapis lazuli
Lapis lazuli is a rock, not a single mineral: blue lazurite with white calcite and golden flecks of pyrite. At 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches more easily than most gems.
Cleaning
Wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: it is a porous rock that can crack along its calcite veins. Keep it away from acids and household cleaners, which attack its calcite.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz, so dust it gently.
