About petroleum quartz
Petroleum quartz holds tiny pockets of natural oil, sometimes with a gas bubble, trapped while the crystal grew. It is 7 on the Mohs scale, but the inclusions make it sensitive to heat.
Cleaning
Rinse it in cool or lukewarm water, never hot, and let it dry away from heat. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: warmth and vibration put pressure on the oil and gas inclusions.
Wear and storage
Quartz crystals are hard, but their points and edges can chip if knocked. Store the cluster padded and apart from other specimens.
