Classic parallel-banded malachite in a trillion cut. The banding runs across the width of both stones in a sweeping chevron/arch pattern, broad parallel layers of deep blackish-forest green and vivid emerald green that converge into a subtle V near the base of each stone. The most saturated greens sit in the middle zones, with the dark, near-black bands outlining the upper third, and there are no pale or white tones anywhere, only clean contrast between green and dark. Both stones were clearly cut from the same rough, with near-identical chevron and band distribution. High gloss mirror polish. The base edge of each stone has a slight natural wave following the original botryoidal surface contour of the material.
The trillion outline is an unusual format for malachite earring pairs, where ovals and rounds are far more common, so the geometric silhouette stands out. At 23x20mm per stone, these are large statement pieces. Malachite has been used in jewelry and the decorative arts since antiquity, and Africa's copper belt, spanning Congo and Zambia, is the world's primary source. They suit statement earrings in yellow or rose gold, which complement the warm green tones.

About malachite
Malachite is a copper carbonate whose bands of green grow in layers, much like agate. At 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale it is soft and scratches easily.
Cleaning
Wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: malachite is soft and porous. Keep it away from acids, even lemon juice and vinegar, and household cleaners, which etch it.
Wear and storage
Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz. It suits pendants, earrings and brooches better than rings worn every day. Store it on its own in a soft pouch, away from harder stones.
For your jeweler
These stones are untreated. Malachite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. A bezel or another protective setting suits it best.
