Fibrous velvet malachite in octagon form, with a pronounced concentric eye pattern, a dark oval core at the center of each stone ringed by a zone of brighter emerald green, then a darker outer field. Each cabochon has a clear visual point for the eye to start from. It is slightly greener and more balanced than the darker 44ct pair, with the middle emerald ring bright and distinct. Both stones show the eye pattern in the same proportional position; the overall match is very good. The polished surface carries the silky microtexture characteristic of fibrous malachite.
The centered eye pattern makes these particularly effective as earring pairs, viewed symmetrically face-on in cup or post settings. Congo and Zambia are the primary sources for malachite of this fibrous character.

About malachite
Malachite is a copper carbonate whose bands of green grow in layers, much like agate. At 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale it is soft and scratches easily.
Cleaning
Wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: malachite is soft and porous. Keep it away from acids, even lemon juice and vinegar, and household cleaners, which etch it.
Wear and storage
Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz. It suits pendants, earrings and brooches better than rings worn every day. Store it on its own in a soft pouch, away from harder stones.
For your jeweler
These stones are untreated. Malachite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. A bezel or another protective setting suits it best.
