The nearly colorless interior is bright and lively, with the cushion facets scattering light in sharp, clean flashes. From Mae Sai, Thailand, completely untreated, with UV fluorescence. The extremely light color is a naturally occurring feature of certain Mae Sai spinel crystals, not a sign of quality reduction - spinel simply occurs across a full range from near-colorless to deeply saturated. About spinel
Spinel is 8 on the Mohs scale, has good toughness and no cleavage, so it resists scratches and rarely chips or splits when knocked. It is a durable choice for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted spinel, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Spinel is hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from them and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This spinel is untreated. Spinel handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
