This 0.65ct VVS untreated purple sapphire pear from Songea, Tanzania presents a dramatic deep plum-crimson color at the captivating boundary between rich purple and reddish-violet. The facets return vivid flashes of magenta and burgundy, creating a moody, jewel-toned depth that is both intensely saturated and genuinely beautiful. The clarity is notably clean for such a deeply colored stone, allowing light to pass freely through the rich, saturated interior.
Songea, Tanzania is one of Africa's most celebrated gemstone localities, renowned for producing purple and violet sapphires of remarkable depth and character. This stone is completely untreated and unheated, meaning its extraordinary plum-crimson hue is entirely natural. VVS clarity combined with untreated status is an uncommon pairing that makes this stone a noteworthy collector's gem and a superb choice for a fine custom jewelry centerpiece or pendant drop.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is untreated. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
