This elegant octagon-cut purple sapphire from Madagascar displays a soft, romantic lavender-violet hue that fills its step-cut facets with a gentle, translucent glow. The medium-pale tone allows light to pass through the stone gracefully, creating a luminous quality enhanced by the crisp, parallel facet lines of the octagon cut. A refined and distinctive sapphire color that balances softness with sophistication.
Purple and violet sapphires from Madagascar are appreciated for their gentle lavender tones, offering a softer alternative to deeper violet stones. This stone's heat treatment, standard practice for Madagascar corundum, has enhanced its color and clarity without altering its natural character. The octagon cut suits both vintage-inspired designs and modern minimalist settings, making this stone excellent for rings, pendants, or earrings where a soft purple tone with architectural form is desired.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
