This unheated Songea sapphire presents a captivating multi-tonal color story in a 6x5.2mm pear cut, with cool lavender-gray and purple zones contrasting against rich warm amber and orange-brown areas within the same stone. The natural color zoning produces a distinctive appearance, shifting between the cool blue-purple spectrum and warm golden tones as the stone moves, a characteristic signature of the celebrated Songea deposits of southern Tanzania. The pear cut elegantly showcases both color zones simultaneously, making this a stone whose visual character is impossible to replicate.
Songea, in the Ruvuma region of southern Tanzania, is one of the world's most important and fascinating sapphire localities, producing stones with a distinctive parti-color character that sets them apart from all other origins. This stone is fully unheated and untreated, preserving every nuance of its complex natural color entirely as formed. At 6x5.2mm and 0.86ct in a pear cut it is an excellent centerpiece for a statement pendant, a bespoke ring, or a collector's piece where the rare natural color complexity of an unheated Songea sapphire is the defining feature.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is untreated. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
