Natural Quartz Crystal Cluster from Bulgaria 501g

A long, low ridge of quartz crystals, milky white to faintly translucent, their terminations blunt and rounded rather than sharply pointed. The larger crystals sit along the crest with fine internal growth lines showing through the surface as pale chevrons, and smaller crystals fill the flanks. Toward the right end a small area of tan host rock breaks the white. At 148mm long and only 49mm deep the piece has a distinctly elongated, ridge-like profile.

Milky quartz gets its color from countless tiny fluid inclusions trapped as the crystal grew, which scatter light and turn what would otherwise be colorless quartz white. From the Bulgarian lead-zinc veins of the Rhodope Mountains. Untreated. Quartz is 7 on the Mohs scale and hard-wearing, and the long low shape displays well laid out flat where the whole crest can be seen.
