A warm deep red trillion with bright orange-red flashes lifting out of the darker body as the stone moves. The triangular outline is cut with large facets that read as broad panels of color, and the interior is clean and open, consistent with the VS grade. Light travels well through the stone, and the brightest returns gather along the lower edge. All three corners are neatly finished.
Madagascar produces rhodolite across the red to purple range, and this stone sits at the warm red end. It is untreated. A trillion at 5.8x5.7mm is a versatile accent shape, good in a cluster, as a side stone, or set alone in a small pendant. As a garnet it also serves as a January birthstone.
Natural rhodolite garnet, January birthstone, untreated, sold loose.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
