A distinctively characterful 0.98ct oval sapphire from Tanga, Tanzania, presenting a pale brownish-champagne body with a warm, taupe-like tone and a subtly smoky quality. The color is muted and earthy rather than vivid, carrying a nuanced depth that sits at the intersection of pale yellow, beige, and champagne. The stone is fairly transparent, with feathering and fine natural needle inclusions running through the interior. Its most remarkable feature is a strong orange-red fluorescence under 365nm UV illumination, which transforms the appearance of the stone dramatically and adds a rare optical dimension.
Completely untreated, from the Tanga region of Tanzania, an important African sapphire origin producing naturally colored stones with unusual optical properties. The combination of natural color preservation, untreated status, and vivid fluorescence makes this a compelling collector's stone. Buyers who value natural, unmodified gemstones with distinctive character will find this stone particularly rewarding, and the fluorescence makes it an especially interesting piece for a pendant or ring setting where different lighting conditions can reveal the stone's hidden orange intensity.
Natural untreated yellow sapphire with fluorescence, September birthstone - sold loose.

About sapphire
Sapphire is corundum in every color except red. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted sapphire, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Sapphire is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This sapphire is untreated. Sapphire handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
