A natural aquamarine from Brazil, 6.27ct, in an oval cut measuring 13.4x10.4mm. This large-faced stone shows a pale, muted blue-gray tone with a softly diffused, milky character, the natural result of heavy inclusions spread evenly through the body. The broad, shallow faceting catches light across the wide table in an understated, even way rather than with sharp contrast.
At over 13mm face length, this stone offers real size for a low price. The milky, semi-opaque quality makes it better suited to bezel settings or mixed-media pieces where the soft, hazy pale blue becomes a design feature rather than a limitation. About aquamarine
Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl. At 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale with only poor cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted aquamarine, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Aquamarine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This aquamarine is untreated. Aquamarine takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
