This substantial natural yellow apatite oval presents a warm, golden-olive color with a honeyed depth that shifts from buttery gold in direct light to a more muted olive-yellow from certain angles. The stone is semi-transparent, and at close inspection it reveals distinct horizontal growth planes and fine needle-like inclusions that trace the natural layering of the crystal. These internal features are a hallmark of its completely natural origin. The broad oval outline and large table facet make the color and character of the gem highly visible.

About apatite
Apatite is a calcium phosphate. At 5 on the Mohs scale it is soft for a gemstone and sensitive to acids, heat and knocks, so it is best for pendants, earrings or a collection.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can crack it. Keep it away from acids, including lemon juice and vinegar, and household cleaners.
Wear and storage
With a hardness below 7 it can be scratched even by quartz, which is found in household dust, and a knock can chip it. Wipe it gently and store it on its own in a soft pouch. It suits pendants and earrings better than an everyday ring.
For your jeweler
This apatite is untreated. Apatite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. A bezel or another protective setting suits it best.
