A heart-shaped lapis lazuli piece showing a vivid royal blue with more prominent white calcite patches and mottling across the polished surface, alongside scattered golden pyrite flecks. The natural calcite patterns are what distinguish authentic lapis lazuli from dyed imitations, and this stone wears them with character.
Untreated and sourced from Afghanistan, this small heart is a genuine piece of natural lapis lazuli.
Natural lapis lazuli, small heart, sold loose.

About lapis lazuli
Lapis lazuli is a rock, not a single mineral: blue lazurite with white calcite and golden flecks of pyrite. At 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches more easily than most gems.
Cleaning
Wipe it with a soft cloth dampened in lukewarm water and dry it at once. Do not soak it or leave it in water. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: it is a porous rock that can crack along its calcite veins. Keep it away from acids and household cleaners, which attack its calcite.
Wear and storage
Display it on a stand or a soft cloth so it cannot roll or knock against harder stones, and store it wrapped in a soft cloth. Below 7 on the Mohs scale, it can be scratched even by household dust, which contains quartz, so dust it gently.
