A clean mint green is where this color change garnet starts, pale and fresh in daylight, before turning a soft powder pink under a warm bulb. Both states are gentle rather than saturated, which makes this one of the prettier small stones in the group rather than one of the most dramatic. The 3mm round is cut with a full set of facets and stays bright in both frames. Nothing interrupts the interior, matching the VS grade.
At 3mm this is a stone for setting among others, in a halo or scattered across a band where several can catch the change together. For a January birthday it is a quiet alternative to the usual deep red. It is untreated, and the color shift is a property of the crystal chemistry rather than anything done to it afterward. Color change garnet is uncommon enough that most jewelers never handle one.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
