The change on this small color change garnet is one of the strongest in the group: a cool pale teal in daylight becomes a vivid, almost fuchsia pink under incandescent light, with none of the softness the other small rounds show. Held in daylight the color is quiet, close to grey-green at the edges, so the warm-light version comes as a genuine surprise. The 3mm round is well cut and the interior stays clean under close light, consistent with the VS grade.
Strength of change is what separates one color change garnet from another, and this one earns its name more clearly than most. It comes from the East African deposits that supply nearly all such material, and it is completely untreated. Garnet being January's stone, this makes an unusual birthday piece for someone who already owns the red version. The size suits a stud or an accent setting.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
