Daylight finds this color change garnet in olive and mustard yellow, with a darker green pooling through the middle of the table; switch to incandescent light and the whole stone warms to salmon pink. It is the largest in this group at 6.8x5.5mm, which gives the shift room to be seen properly rather than guessed at. The oval is cut with big open facets that read clearly in both lighting frames. Internal texture runs through the body along with a few dark specks near the girdle, consistent with the SI grade.
Madagascar produces color change garnet in these earthier olive-to-rose combinations rather than the blue-green to pink of the East African material. Untreated, like all of it. Over a carat is generous for a stone that changes color, and this one is large enough to carry a ring or a pendant by itself. Anyone shopping for a January birthday who finds red garnet predictable will find this the opposite.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
