A striking natural red apatite rough crystal from Pakistan with a deep, rich wine-red color and a semi-transparent body showing natural crystal cleavage planes. The color is a warm, saturated burgundy-red with purplish undertones, and the natural form of the crystal shows character typical of apatite specimens from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. About apatite
Apatite is a calcium phosphate. At 5 on the Mohs scale it is soft for a gemstone and sensitive to acids, heat and knocks, so it is best for pendants, earrings or a collection.
Cleaning
Rinse it briefly in lukewarm water and let it dry. Do not scrub it: at a hardness of 5 to 6 the crystal faces scratch easily. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners. Keep it away from acids, including lemon juice and vinegar, and household cleaners.
Wear and storage
Store it padded and apart from other specimens, and keep metal tools and harder stones away from it: its faces scratch easily.
