About chrysoberyl
Chrysoberyl is 8.5 on the Mohs scale and has excellent toughness, which makes it one of the most durable gemstones. It has one cleavage plane, but this is rarely a problem.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: cabochons usually contain fine inclusions or fissures that vibration and heat can open.
Wear and storage
Chrysoberyl is hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from them and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This chrysoberyl is untreated. Chrysoberyl handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
