A well-balanced set, this trio moves from a confident medium blue-violet on the left, through a slightly deeper stone at center with a tiny pinpoint inclusion visible near the culet, to the lightest of the three on the right, a soft lilac-lavender with a gentle glow.
Mined at the Merelani Hills of Tanzania, the only place tanzanite is found, these stones carry the standard heat treatment used to develop and stabilize their blue-violet color. Their graduated tone makes them an interesting choice for a three-stone ring or a small cluster design that plays with subtle color variation.

About tanzanite
Tanzanite is the blue to violet variety of the mineral zoisite. At 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, with perfect cleavage and fair toughness, it is softer and more fragile than sapphire, so it needs gentle handling.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. With a hardness below 7 it can be scratched even by quartz, which is found in household dust, so wipe it gently and store it on its own in a soft pouch. It suits pendants and earrings better than an everyday ring.

These stones are heated, and the color from heating is stable. Tanzanite should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
