A large rough Baltic amber piece at nearly 10cm across and weighing 122g. The outer surface is extensively covered in a thick dark brown to near-black weathered cortex, built up over millions of years, with warm golden amber glowing through wherever the natural crust gives way. The sheer scale and mass of this piece give it a powerful, primordial presence. This is amber as it comes from the ground, completely unworked.

About amber
Amber is fossilized tree resin, not a mineral, so it is very light and feels warm to the touch. At 2 to 2.5 on the Mohs scale it scratches very easily.
Cleaning
Rinse it briefly in lukewarm water, loosen dirt with a soft brush and let it air-dry. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: amber is soft and melts or cracks with heat. Keep alcohol, perfume, hairspray and solvents away from it: they dissolve its surface.
Wear and storage
Store it on its own in a soft pouch or a padded box, away from harder stones. It is soft enough to be scratched by a fingernail, so handle it gently.
