The most saturated of the 10x8mm ovals, this 3.08ct stone holds a fuller, bolder sky blue with strong contrast between the lit facets and the deeper ones, so it reads as a proper blue rather than a tint. The color carries all the way to both ends without thinning at the points of the oval. Clarity is VS with a clean interior. The polish is bright and the outline is accurately proportioned.
Where several ovals are being compared, depth of color is usually what decides it, and this is the one that will photograph and wear darkest. Colorless Brazilian rough is irradiated and then heated to reach this saturation. Deeper blues hold their color in poor light where the pale stones wash out. December counts blue topaz among its birthstones.
Natural sky blue topaz, deep 10x8mm oval, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
