The outline of this 3.7mm round is not quite true: a flattened section along one side of the girdle leaves it slightly out of round, visible on close inspection though not once the stone sits in a claw. The color is a warm even peach-tan, and the brilliant cut still returns light well across the face despite the asymmetry. Clarity is VS with a clean interior. Polish on the crown facets is bright.
Small deviations from round are ordinary in commercial melee and accent goods, where cutters keep weight rather than chase perfect symmetry. This is Brazilian topaz, irradiated and heated in the usual way. A claw or bezel hides the flat entirely, so the practical effect is nil. Topaz answers to November, and warm champagne tones suit autumn pieces particularly well.
Natural champagne topaz, 0.28ct round, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
