Fuller and warmer in tone than the paler champagne rounds, this 3.9mm stone carries its peach-tan color evenly right out to the girdle with no thinning through the middle. The brilliant faceting breaks it into small bright wedges of apricot and near-white, and the polish is clean across the whole crown. Clarity is VS with nothing visible to the eye. For a stone under a third of a carat it holds a surprising amount of color.
Where several accent stones are being set together, the deeper-toned ones like this are worth keeping for the positions that catch the most light. Brazilian topaz reaches the champagne range through irradiation followed by heating. Warm neutrals are among the easiest colors to wear daily, since they read as metal-adjacent rather than as a statement. Anyone with a November birthday can claim topaz as their stone.
Natural champagne topaz, 0.31ct round, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
