The color on this cushion is layered rather than uniform: a pale honey table sits at the center, ringed by a band of deep cognac amber where the crown facets run down to the girdle, and the contrast between the two is the stone's most distinctive feature. At 15.8x12.5mm the face is broad and slightly rectangular, with neatly cut brilliant facets around a generous table. The interior is transparent, with a few natural inclusions and pinpoints visible under close light in keeping with the VS grade.
Brazilian rough of this size lets a cutter keep a wide table, which is what produces the pale center here; the deeper color at the edges is simply light traveling through more material on its way out. The stone is untreated. It is a cocktail ring stone, or a pendant if the mount is generous. Citrine holds the November spot in the birthstone calendar.

About citrine
Citrine is the yellow to golden orange variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted citrine, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Citrine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
