Warm amber orange, and unusually mirror-like: the concave facets on this oval are polished to the point where they return light in hard metallic flashes rather than a soft glow. Bronze and gold reflections chase each other across the face as the stone turns, with darker orange-brown zones anchoring the outer third. A small flat hexagon at the center stays calm while everything around it moves. VS clarity, transparent, with only minor natural inclusions.
The orange side of citrine comes from the same iron chemistry as the yellow, simply more of it, and Brazilian rough covers the whole range. This stone has had no treatment. Amber orange sits well against rose and yellow gold, and at 11.4x9.4mm it is a comfortable size for a ring center. About citrine
Citrine is the yellow to golden orange variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted citrine, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Citrine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
