A deep stone, 7.3mm from table to culet on an 8.8mm face, and that depth shows in the color: a rich amber gold, warmer and more concentrated than a shallower cut of the same material would give. The concave facets are bold and broadly spaced, sweeping down the cushion sides in long curved sheets, and the center gathers into a bright irregular star. Darker cognac shadows settle into the corners. Transparent, VS clarity.
Cut depth is worth paying attention to in quartz. A deep pavilion like this one sends light back through more material, which deepens the apparent color and is why the stone reads richer than its weight might suggest. Untreated, from Brazil. About citrine
Citrine is the yellow to golden orange variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted citrine, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Citrine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
