Bright, clean canary gold with very little brown in it, this oval citrine reads more yellow than amber and holds that brightness right across the face. The concave rays are broad and well spaced, converging on a small center where they gather into a compact star, and the polish returns light in clear sheets rather than scattered glints. The interior is notably open, with nothing visible to the eye. At 11.6x9.9mm the outline is full and rounded rather than elongated.
Untreated, from Brazil. Lighter golden citrine is the easier one to wear day to day, since it does not darken under indoor light the way deeply saturated material can. The full oval outline suits a halo or a plain bezel equally. Citrine also carries the November birthstone designation, which keeps this an easy autumn gift.

About citrine
Citrine is the yellow to golden orange variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted citrine, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Citrine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
