At 12mm square and just over 9ct this is a substantial stone, and the color is lighter than the weight suggests: a soft champagne honey that stays bright right through the middle of the face. The crown is cut in broad steps and the pavilion in chevrons, and the two together produce long horizontal and vertical bands of light and shade rather than scattered sparkle, a calm and architectural look. A small brown natural inclusion sits near the lower edge, low enough to disappear behind a claw. The interior is otherwise clean and transparent at VS.
Square citrine at this size is straightforward in Brazilian rough, which grows large enough to make a 12mm face practical. The stone is untreated. It has the spread for a statement cocktail ring, and the paler champagne tone keeps that from turning heavy on the hand. As a November stone it makes a substantial birthday present.

About citrine
Citrine is the yellow to golden orange variety of quartz. At 7 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a durable stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted citrine, but skip steam: sudden heat can crack quartz or change its color.
Wear and storage
Citrine is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
