Lively for its size, this 0.31ct round throws a bright open star across a clear teal blue with strong light return around the whole crown. The tone sits between the vivid and the deep stones in the group, bright enough to catch the eye but with real color behind it. A small dark point shows toward the upper left under close light, consistent with VS. The outline is a clean circle with crisp facet junctions.
Light return matters more than carat weight in a 4mm stone, since nobody weighs an accent; they only see whether it sparkles. This one does. Brazilian topaz is irradiated and then heated to fix the blue. It suits any standard 4mm accent setting. Blue topaz shares December with tanzanite and zircon.
Natural London blue topaz, 4mm accent stone, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
