Even color is the strength of this 4mm London blue: a steady mid-teal that holds the same value from the star out to the girdle, with none of the patchiness that small stones sometimes show. The pavilion returns a clean, well-centered star and the facets around it stay bright. Clarity is VS with nothing eye-visible inside. The round is accurately cut with a level girdle and a bright polish.
Consistency across a parcel is what matters when several accent stones will sit side by side, and an evenly colored round is the one to keep for a visible position. Brazilian topaz reaches London blue through irradiation followed by heat. Four millimetres suits pavé, halos and bezel accents equally. December recognizes blue topaz among its stones.
Natural London blue topaz, 0.32ct round, sold loose.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
