The most vivid of the small London blue ovals, this stone leans slightly green and stays bright all the way through, with strong white glints scattered across the crown rather than concentrated in one place. It is also the cleanest of the group, with no eye-visible inclusions and a smooth even polish. The oval is well proportioned at 4.9x3.9mm and the color reads consistently whether viewed straight on or tilted. Light return is very good for a stone of this size.
Brighter London blue of this kind comes from the same irradiation and heating of Brazilian topaz that produces the darker stones, with the depth depending on the material and the length of treatment. A clean, lively accent stone is worth keeping for a piece where it sits next to the center stone and has to hold up under inspection. Blue topaz is one of the December birthstones.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
