Brighter and more open than most London blue, this 7.1x5.2mm oval leans clearly toward teal, with a luminous blue-green center that stays lit rather than going dark face-up. The facet junctions are crisp and the pavilion returns light evenly across the whole stone, so the color reads consistently from every angle. Transparency is very good and the interior is clean to the eye, consistent with VS. The elongated outline makes the most of a stone just under a carat.
Brazilian topaz reaches its blue through irradiation and a follow-up heating, the standard route for the material and stable once complete. The lighter, greener end of the London range is the easiest of the blues to wear in daylight and pairs comfortably with both yellow and white metal. A 7x5mm oval is the workhorse size for a pendant or a modest ring center. Blue topaz is among the birthstones assigned to December.

About topaz
Topaz is 8 on the Mohs scale, so it resists scratches well, but it has perfect cleavage along one plane, and a sharp knock can split it even when the surface shows no scratches. It suits pendants and earrings, and rings too if worn with care.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and sudden temperature changes can start a crack along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work: a sharp knock can split it. Harder stones such as sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This topaz is irradiated, the usual treatment for this color. Topaz should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
