The stones share a purplish-red body color characteristic of Mozambican ruby - a cool red with a recognizable purple modifier that shows consistently across the mixed pear and oval shapes in this lot. Mozambique's Montepuez district has been one of the world's most significant ruby sources since its commercial emergence in the early 2010s, producing large volumes of quality ruby in a range of sizes. About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

These stones are heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
