A natural pear-cut ruby from Mozambique, weighing 0.19 carats and measuring 4.5x2.5mm. The elongated, narrow pear silhouette at 4.5x2.5mm creates a slim teardrop outline well suited to drop settings. The body color is a purplish-red, characteristic of a portion of Mozambican ruby that shows this cooler red with a recognizable purple modifier. Transparent with SI clarity, the color shows cleanly face-up through the slim pear form.
Mozambique's Montepuez district is among the world's most significant commercial ruby sources. Heat treatment is standard practice for most Montepuez material, having been used to improve clarity and intensify the red tone. Purplish-red is a recognized and distinct color variant in Mozambican ruby. At 4.5x2.5mm, the narrow pear is ideal for pendant drops, earring drops, and small accent positions.

About ruby
Ruby is the red variety of the mineral corundum. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, and it is also very tough with no cleavage, so it rarely chips or splits when knocked. Together that makes it one of the most durable gemstones for everyday wear, rings included.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Ultrasonic and steam cleaners are usually fine for a faceted ruby, but skip them if the stone has fissures that reach the surface.
Wear and storage
Ruby is very hard, so it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Only diamond can scratch it, so keep it apart from diamonds and store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This ruby is heated, and the color from heating is stable. Ruby handles normal setting, re-tipping and polishing well. If the stone has fissures that reach the surface, keep it out of direct torch flame and acid pickle.
