A mixed lot of 7 round moonstone cabochons with notably varied character between pieces. The top three stones are near-transparent with glassy bodies and visible internal cleavage planes, one carries a vivid, concentrated deep-blue flash, another a diffuse blue-grey glow. The lower four are milkier and more opaque in body, with softer adularescence ranging from pale blue-white to a striking multicolor blue-green shimmer on one piece. The lot combines two clearly distinct visual types within a single package.
The variation within this lot means the pieces suit different purposes: the more transparent, strongly adularescent stones work well as a center stone for a ring or pendant, while the milkier pieces suit multi-stone positions or accent details. India is the primary commercial source for this type of round cabochon moonstone.

About moonstone
Moonstone is a feldspar whose soft blue-white glow (adularescence) comes from light scattering between extremely thin layers inside the stone. Like all feldspars it is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale with two perfect cleavage directions, so it needs protection from knocks.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft brush, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. Skip ultrasonic and steam cleaners: vibration and heat can split it along its cleavage.
Wear and storage
Take it off for sport, gardening or heavy work, where a knock is most likely to split it along its cleavage. Below 7 on the Mohs scale it can be scratched even by quartz in household dust, so store it on its own in a soft pouch.
For your jeweler
These stones are untreated. Moonstone should be kept away from the torch flame, acid pickle and the ultrasonic bath. Ask for gentle pressure when setting, since a hard push can split it.
