This color change garnet reads as a muted sage green in daylight, more olive than mint, and moves to a light orchid purple-pink when the light warms. It is the softest change among the small rounds here, a shift within a family rather than a jump between opposites. At 2.8mm the round is the smallest stone in the group. Fine internal texture shows under magnification, in keeping with the SI grade, though at this size it makes no difference to the eye.
Untreated, as color change garnet always is: there is no process that creates the effect. The vanadium content responsible for it also sets how far the color travels, which varies from stone to stone even within a single parcel. Something this small works best in a group, where a row of them shows the change more convincingly than one alone would. It is also a January birthstone, if a very unexpected one.

About garnet
Garnet is a family of closely related minerals, including rhodolite, spessartine, grossular and tsavorite. At 7 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with no cleavage, it is a good stone for everyday wear.
Cleaning
Warm water, a drop of mild dish soap and a soft toothbrush are all you need. Brush behind the stone too, where dust and skin oils collect, then rinse and dry with a soft cloth. An ultrasonic cleaner is usually fine for a clean faceted garnet, but skip steam: sudden temperature changes can crack it.
Wear and storage
Garnet is hard enough for everyday wear, and it can scratch softer gemstones stored with it. Harder stones such as topaz, sapphire, ruby and diamond can scratch it, so store it on its own in a gem jar or a soft pouch.

This garnet is untreated. Garnet takes normal setting well, but keep it out of direct torch flame: sudden heat can crack it or change its color.
